DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS

Flexi-Mesh’s design engineers are able to assist architects, landscape architects, engineers and contractors customize solutions using stainless steel architectural cable mesh in tensile architectural projects.

We offer an end-to-end solution that provides:

  • Design

  • Engineering

  • Shop Drawings

  • Structural Analysis

  • Material Selection

  • Project Risk and Budget Assessments

  • Supply and Installation

  • Maintenance Manuals

  • Minimum 3 Year Warranty

With nearly 60 years experience in stainless steel architectural rigging, we work with clients to provide a high quality yet cost effective solution for your next tensile mesh project.

Detailed below are a number of design parameters that  need to be considered prior to selecting the correct Flexi-Mesh product.

Flex-Mesh used as balustrade in Australia.

Tensile Strength

The project application and ultimate design will determine the tensile strength of the Flexi-Mesh panels you require.

This will be determined by various factors including installation type, size of the structure, static loads calculated, local building codes and laws etc. These factors need to be considered carefully in the design process.

As a guide Flexi-Mesh panels can be made from 7×7, 7×19 or 1×19 stainless steel wire rope with the minimum tensile strengths of each size and construction noted in Table 1 for reference.

Our standard panels are made from 7×7 construction wire rope as this is the most cost-effective solution for most applications.

However, we are able to manufacture from 7×19 construction wire rope and 1×19 wire strand to meet specific project criteria.

As every Flexi-Mesh panel is made to order we are able to tailor the panels to meet your project tensile requirements.

Mesh Aperture

Mesh aperture, or net geometry, refers to the distance between the middle of one ferrule to the next ferrule along the cable and is stated as:

Mesh Aperture = Mesh Width (W) x Mesh Height (H)

The mesh aperture required for a particulare project will be determined by numerous factors that include:

  • Transparency
  • Light Transission
  • Airflow
  • Installation Type
  • Relevant Building Codes and Laws
Flexi-Mesh Aperture = Mesh Width (W) x Mesh Height (H)

Mesh Orientation

An aesthetic choice, Flexi-Mesh panels can be manufactured in either the Vertical (V) or Horizontal (H) geometric orientation:

Mesh Ferruled

The most popular option of Flexi-Mesh is ferruled. Click here for more information including Data Sheets.
